Randy Rider and Associates LLC

I began my career with the Douglas County Sheriff office, Georgia in 1974. I received several promotions eventually to investigations. My areas of expertise are extensive having worked crimes from petty theft to murder.

In 1983 I became employed with the Georgia Department of Juvenile Justice as an investigator, promoted to Principal Investigator. I eventually moved into the Internal Affairs Unit as an investigator and as a supervisor.

In 1997 I returned to my roots in Douglas County working for the City of Douglasville Police Department. I started in the patrol division and eventually served as the commander of the detective division, internal affairs, training officer, and administration officer. As administration supervisor I managed, FEMA operations, finance, hiring, background investigations, grant manager (success fully obtained 3 positions through the COPS grants), and many other duties.

I was elected President of the National Internal Affairs Investigators Association in 2005 and stepped down in 2010 having served five years. I am currently the Chaplain of the organization.

I am employed with the Public Agency Training Council one of the largest police training organizations in the country. Rider travels the country teaching officers on internal investigations of corrections facilities and first line supervisors on investigations of citizen’s complaints. I have experience is police audits.

Over the course of my career I have conducted hundreds of investigations concerning abuse, neglect, and use of force by law enforcement officers. Additionally, I have years of experience in custodial investigations, including numerous investigations involving the highly prevalent but seldom reported cases of inmate on inmate abuse. I have conducted investigations of police personnel for acts of misconduct.

I am a certified Senior Instructor in the state of Georgia having taught classes in various Police Academies across the state of Georgia. I am certified to teach in the Police and Fire Academy at the Georgia Public Safety Training Center in Forsyth, Georgia and am working on his Master Instructor certification. I hold certifications as a firearms instructor, range master, CPR instructor, NIMS instructor, and Field Training Officer.

A member of the IACP I worked with the organization on the document “Building Trust between the Police and the Citizens They Serve. Currently I am an advisor on the Leading by Legacy program. I am an advisor to the International Chiefs of Police and the Department of Justice Community Oriented Policing Services.

I write a monthly article for Officer.com as the internal affairs author. I published the weekly NIAIA newsletter for five years. I currently publish the “riderreport” a police newsletter.

I have testified as an expert witness in the area of custodial misconduct in the federal court system.

I was assigned to handle recovery operations within the City during the flood of 2009 and was instrumental in obtaining disaster funding. I am active with Department of Homeland Security FEMA as an instructor, and evaluator. I retired in December 2010.

On March 1, 2012, I was declared medically disabled due to Spinal Ataxia.  I currently am available for consulting on a limited basis.
